Samson falls in love with Delilah

Judges 16:4-9

After this it came about that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.

Samson again show us that his love has shifted again for a Philistine women. Strange thing is this is after him seeing several times that the Philistines have wanted to do him harm. Samson has “been around” a lot at this point and it falls head over heels for Delilah. He should have seen the signs and ran. Delilah was a crafty manipulator and she was going to work hard to help bring Samson down for money. We must understand that lust for the flesh and for looks will always lead to destruction. Samson had big problems in this area, but God works everything out for His purpose, His will be done!

The lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her, “Entice him, and see where his great strength lies and [a]how we may overpower him that we may bind him to afflict him. Then we will each give you eleven hundred pieces of silver.”

The brides were coming in, so you wonder why the Philistines are some time just let Samson be with Delilah and not try to go and kill him. One with his strength it would have been hard for them but two they knew of his struggle with lust, Samson wore it on his sleeve. They knew it was only a matter time before they could use a woman to help take him down.

We must understand where we are weak and we must look to God to help us understand to avoid these situations. If party’s make us weak, stay away. If being around people who are always talking about things that might make you stumble just walk away when they go that direction.

Be smart, trust Jesus, the spirit will guide you. When you feel that tug pulling you away, go!

When I am with coworkers and they start talking about women in lust or start talking about partying/drinking, I just gracefully bow out, trust me they don’t even notice, they are more into their conversation.

Samson couldn’t bow out, he had to have the women! Boy, did he have his hands full with Delilah.

So Delilah said to Samson, “Please tell me where your great strength is and [b]how you may be bound to afflict you.” Samson said to her, “If they bind me with seven fresh cords that have not been dried, then I will become weak and be like any other man.” Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven fresh cords that had not been dried, and she bound him with them. Now she had men lying in wait in an inner room. And she said to him, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” But he snapped the cords as a string of tow snaps when it [c]touches fire. So his strength was not discovered.

Samson did not fully reveal his secret to Delilah but the writing was on the wall that she was trying to trick Samson, but what does Samson do about it.

What would we do about it?
